The Ukrainian Humanitarian Initiative (UHI)  UHI is a voluntary, not-for-profit charitable foundation dedicated to improving the quality of life for children living in orphanages and provide humanitarian aid and support for the needy children in Ukraine, the third largest country in Eastern Europe. The purpose and mission of UHI centers on providing immediate aid to those most vulnerable in Ukraine, which is a country in the midst of social upheaval and economic change as it proceeds on a sometimes difficult path towards democracy. As in most times of political and national upheaval, the children suffer the most. Also our mission is to fund professionally guided programs dealing with health, education and the prevention of abuse of children. The use of the funds donated by UHI is always earmarked for specific programs and closely monitored. Vision Our mandate is to provide immediate assistance to the most vulnerable - the children. Private, institutional, corporate, and government donors/sponsors support our humanitarian endeavors. This broad base of national and international support has enabled our foundation to continue providing humanitarian aid to developing state in a time of great need. About us The Ukrainian Humanitarian Initiative consists of a dedicated core of volunteers who have committed significant time and energy towards the endeavor. Our staff includes facilitators, translators, and travel coordinators who help arrange all aspects of delivering the humanitarian aid, assistance for foreign volunteers and adoptive families. Each of our staff members has at least ten years of experience in the work of this foundation. We are consistenly growing and we would like you to grow with us. Volunteer Opportunity As a volunteer on this project there are going to be loads of different activities you can get involved with. You can help teach English to kids of all ages, play with the children so they gain confidence and learn to interact better with other people as well as arranging extra classes such as dance/music/drama and sports. You can also help with the day-to-day running of the orphanage, getting involved wherever help is needed. It is also really crucial to communicate the importance of protecting the environment to the children through whatever creative and informative methods you can come up with because, as time goes by, it will fall to them to really help conserve the Ukraine's fertile plains, woodlands and National Parks. Your help for these children gives them an opportunity for a better life in the future. Accomodation & Food You will be staying with a friendly host family in the town who will take good care of you. The local people are well known for their kindness and hospitality and they will help you understand their culture. The houses and the apartments are cosy, comfortable and of a good standard. You will have your own room and shared bathroom amenities. The toilets are western style with a flush. At least one person in the family will speak a bit of English.
