The Needy Today Sierra Leone aims to assist needy children, their families and communities in Sierra Leone to achieve better lives bringing lasting results in health, education and livelihood. The Needy Today Sierra Leone is a nationality child-focused development organization linking caring people in the world and at home with needy children and their families in Sierra Leone. The Needy Today implement development programs to help families lift themselves out of poverty. Together they combine The Needy Today’s proven, individualized assistance with personal communications and comprehensive accountability to sponsors. Programmes in communities are strengthened by development education worldwide.

Vision
The Needy Today through its activities envisions communities, enable children and their families to live in Dignity and Worthy life while they realise the full potential of mellifluous and savoury livelihood.
The Needy Today Mission is to:
—Help forward and support community efforts to improve the quality of life of children and their families.
—Make easy a process of communication amongst different cultures, to enhance mutual understanding and appreciation.
—Promote the Rights and Interest of children.
—Support and facilitate the programmes of God’s Kingdom in a hurting community.

History And Background
The Needy Today Sierra Leone is a Child focused development Organization designed specifically to meet both immediate and long-term needs of children, their families and communities in desperate circumstances. Founded in 1999, The Needy Today Sierra Leone currently registered with the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs. It is The Needy Today’s desire to continue and expand this work to help the war-maimed, orphaned, abandoned, and destitute children of Sierra Leone
Many children were also recruited as child soldiers or and been separated from their families and left orphaned. Many girls also suffer from the threat of unwanted pregnancy, abortion, and childbirth. Both sexes are vulnerable to the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS.

The Needy Today Sierra Leone came as a need and desire to address issues of children, their families and communities in alleviating poverty, helping stem the tide of social disintegration in a wide varieties of areas and creating productive employment.
These areas have many various and inter-related problems, which has been a reservoir of human problems and misery of extreme hardship and indignity such as rural-to-urban migration and lack of basic educational standards, technical training, adequate and modern farming tools, infrastructure such as good roads, bridges and housing facilities, human resources management, post harvest loss reduction facilities, incentives, transportation facilities, social services, better health and employment opportunities.
The needs of all these children have been and will remain The Needy Today Sierra Leone National’s First priority.

Target beneficiaries:

Underprivileged and impoverished and disabled Children, youths and women in life difficult circumstances. Orphans, destitute, abandoned and disabled children are given priority.

Child Sponsorship and Foster Caring
 
There are many children in Sierra Leone who, through many factors, have been orphaned, abandoned, or separated from their families. The past protracted civil war further disfranchised many people and robbed children of their homes and family resources. Many children lack proper food, clothing, shelter and fees for education. For these children, financial assistance may be beneficial in order to ensure that the child can be educated and grow to become a responsible and self-sufficient adult The primary goal of the Child Sponsorship Programme is to help provide economic assistance to children who have been orphaned, abandoned or separated from their families and are at high social risks due to extreme hardship, war, and poverty. The purpose of the assistance is to prevent the child from further abandonment and suffering or living on the streets for basic survival. The monthly assistance provided would be in the form of food staples, clothing, medical care and educational expenses for children identified as being at risk. An effort would be made to identify street children with families living in the locality that can be reunited with their families through assistance.
The Needy Today long-term goal is to provide education and opportunities to help these identified children eventually establish their own means of self- support in adulthood. This will help to foster positive self-esteem for the children by encouraging self-sufficiency. The Child Sponsorship Programme is designed to provide foster families, and providing monthly economic, food staples, clothing, financial assistance, and/or educational expensesfor poverty stricken children identified and selected. It is the desire of The Needy Today Sierra Leone to provide avenues for long-term self-support to abandoned or unaccompanied, orphaned or separated children from their families identified by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender And Children’s Affairs, the District Council, and The Needy Today Office in Sierra Leone.
