Ecole Noula (The Noula School) -Cameroon
Background:
The "Ecole Primaire et Maternelle Bilingue" (Noula: Bilingual Nursery and Primary School) originated from the mission "Association des Femmes Actives pour la Promotion de l’Education de la Femme et de l’Enfant in Yaounde", Cameroon; and was opened in 1997 with the authorization of MINEDUC No J2/3041.
Jean Eudes David Noumegne who partnered with the President and teacher, Jacqueline Goupang to provide education for women and children, founded the original Association. After several years of work, Mr. Noumegne’s business selling encylopedias and other academic books generated the funding necessary to build the school.
Four years after the school opened, on May 25, 2001, the Association was officially accepted by the Cameroonian government as an NGO., renaming itself the "Fondation des Femmes Actives pour la Promotion de l’Education de la Femme et de l’Enfant (FAPEFE)".
Location
Yaounde is the capital city of Cameroon.
Ecole Noula is located in the "Nkomo Awae Maison Rouge Quarter", on the easternmost side of the city.
Cameroon is nicknamed "Little Africa" because of its diversity of people, geographic landscape, and cultures. Located on the West coast of Africa and regionally considered part of the Central African countries, Cameroon combines the cultures of many different areas.
Volunteer opportunity
The School is loooking for:
The school welcome both male and female volunteers (French or English speakers) to help out at the school.
Volunteer duties:
-Teach french reading and writing.
-Teach English reading and writing.
-Give basic computer class.
-Organize extra curricular activities, games etc.
-Organize remedial classes for kids who need special attention.
-teach fine arts
-Raise fund if you can.
(Note that it´s a bilingual school so it´s important to speak both English and frensh (at some level) to be able to communicate with everyone at the project... otherwise you will have to speak the local language!)
Accomodationt and food
Ecole Noula is located in approximately 45 minutes ride from the main airport in yaounde.
The Director of the school will personally pick you up and bring you to the site.
Your living space will be adjacent to the school, cutting down on transportation time and increasing comfortability.
If you would like to visit the city and see the downtown area, a taxi can take you for approximately 400 FCFA and you can be there in 15-30 minutes depending on traffic.
Program fee: 320 usd
(for your entire stay!)
We use the fee to cover food and accomodation expenses. We won´t charge you any extra money for anything! We appreciate your time and dedication. However if you are good with fund raising and can help us getting fund to do some renovation, get school materials or furnitures etc, that will be very much appreciated.
